What is the effect of different surface areas of coffee on the volume of
sodium hydroxide (NaOH) taken to neutralise a solution?
Independent Variable: surface area coffee
Dependent Variable: Volume of Sodium hydroxide (0.5cm3 for 500 cm3 of water)
Independent Variable: surface area coffee
Dependent Variable: Volume of Sodium hydroxide (0.5cm3 for 500 cm3 of water)
method
1.
Pour the NaOH into
the burette
2.
Set up the apparatus as shown on the side:
3.
Put 100cm3 of
the coffee dilution in a beaker
4.
Slowly add the 0.001M of NaOH from
the burette until pH7 which is measured by the pH probe
5.
Record the volume of NaOH
before and after.
6.
Repeat steps 1-5 until concordant results are reached
7.
Repeat step 1-6 for the different ground samples of coffee
